Two Scholastic National Award Medal Recipients for MHS

Submitted by Art Teacher Karen Hughes:

Scholastic National Award Medal Recipients were announced for the US on Tuesday March 14th. Only students with Gold Medals from the State Scholastic Awards were moved on to compete in the National Finals. Out of a total of 120 MA State National Award winners Milton High School has three National Awards awards.  Both Rachael and Sarah have been my students for four years, taking every imaginable art course at MHS and have received a number of departmental awards. Sarah was accepted to MA College of Art and a number of other colleges, and Rachael was accepted to Parsons School of Design in NYC, her top choice. Both Sarah and Rachael were in the original ACE student group in elementary and middle school and attribute their love and passion for the arts to the art experience they both received in the Milton Public Schools from elementary to high school. They are both planning to continue in the arts after high school. This is a first for our district.
I am so proud to give you the results:

Rachael Tomaszewski won a Silver National Medal for her entire Art Portfolio titled: A Family Portrait

Sarah Lam won two individual National Medals: a Gold Medal for her Print titled: All Eyes on You, and a Silver Medal for her Photograph titled: Fog.

Milton High School has had three total National Award Winners total in the past years: Mairead Dambruch, Michael Wyatt, and James Gallagher.

Both Sarah and Rachael will be accepting their medals with their families in NYC at Carnegie Hall, joining all the national winners throughout the US in June.
