The following post originally appeared in Superintendent Gormley's December 23rd E-Blast:
Three students from Milton High School will be joining a group of the
most musically talented high school students in the region this spring
as part of the All-Eastern Honors Ensemble.
William Hess, Garrett Sager and Kevin Mehdizadeh, all Milton High
School seniors, were chosen for the All-Eastern Honors Ensemble from a
field of musicians from 12 states, plus parts of Europe. The students
were chosen based on their performance scores during the All-State
Festival last spring.
“This is an extremely noteworthy accomplishment,” said Dr. Noreen
Diamond Burdett, Fine & Applied Arts department head. “Milton High
School has never had a student chosen for the All-Eastern jazz ensemble
before, and we have never had more than one student accepted for
All-Eastern on any given year.”
The students will attend the three-day festival, to be held in
Providence, Rhode Island in April, where they will prepare and rehearse
challenging musical pieces under the leadership of prominent conductors.
William Hess will perform in the jazz ensemble and Garrett Sager and
Kevin Mehdizadeh will perform in the mixed chorus. The performances will
be part of the Eastern Division Conference of the National Association
for Music Education and will be held at the Rhode Island Convention
Center and the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence.
William Hess is a student of Rebecca Damiani; Garrett Sager and Kevin Mehdizadeh are students of Dr. Noreen Diamond Burdett.
