Athletics Update

MHS Ski Team
The Milton HS Ski team performed well at the recent slalom races. The girl’s team welcomed back Sophie Chase from injury and Shea Rulon continued her dominance with top 10 finishes.  Georgia Bell, Sophie Chase, Alanna Loria and Kristen Ingraham added solid performances. Lucas Campbell excelled in his two runs with top 10 finishes.  Owen Walsh & Marc Plageman were rock-solid as they provided valuable points for the boy’s team. Following Monday evening’s race results, Shea Rulon & Lucas Campbell will be representing the MBSLE at this year’s MIAA State Ski Meet. Owen Walsh will be 1st Alternate and Alanna Loria will be 4th Alternate. The States will be held on Tues. Feb. 25th at Mt. Wachusetts. Shea Rulon placed 6th overall in the entire league and will be selected as a “MA Bay Ski League East All Star”. Other notable Divisional results: Alanna Loria-16th, Sophie Chase-17, Georgia Bell-19th. Both Boy & Girl Ski Teams finished in 4th place in the Small School Division. The team and coaches wish Captain Tori Zimmer a speedy recovery following her recent knee operation. Representing the Small School Division from Milton HS: Shea Rulon: 4th Seed, Alanna Loria: 4th Alternate, Lucas Campbell: 6th Seed, Owen Walsh: 1st Alternate. Shea also placed 4th overall in league standings and will likely be named to the MBSLE All Star Team.
Boys Varsity Hockey
Team Record 13-3-1. After a torrid start, the Boys’ Hockey Team cooled off this past week. With two straight losses at home, our record is now, 13-3-1. Getting great support from underclassmen Lloyd Hill (9 goals, 8 assists, 17 points), Jason turner (5-8-13), Owen Bligh (6-6-12), Shane Kelley (3-7-10), Jack Halloran (7-2-9) and Elliot Chauvet (1-7-8), the team should rebound in our last five games. Tomorrow night is “Senior Night” vs. Wellesley HS at Ulin Rink – 7pm game time. We hope the seniors can get a victory in their last home game.
Girls Varsity Hockey
Record 6-6-3, 15pts. The team Tied Natick 2-2 on Monday, Feb 10th at Ulin Rink
Goalie Sarah Park .911 Save%, 2.14 GAA, MacKenzie Stanley 12 Goals 4 Assists 16pts, Siobhan Murtagh 5 Goals 10 Assists 14pts, Julia Scannell 6 Goals 5 Assists 10pts, Elena Kapolis 5 Goals 4 Assists 9pts. The team needs 5 points in last 6 games to make Tournament
Girls Basketball
Girls Basketball currently stands at 7-10 and needs wins in their last three games (at Wellesley, Dedham, and Tech Boston) to qualify for the state tournament. Senior forward Leigha Okoye has been averaging over 11 rebounds a game the last five games.  The entire team has become one of the best defensive units in the league over the second half of the season.
Boys Basketball
The Boys Basketball team has rebounded with three straight wins against Bay State Conference rivals Norwood 68-62, Natick 55-29, and Walpole 92-86 in overtime. The team is working hard to gain a berth into the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional state tournament. The next games will be: Monday February 17th at Quincy HS vs Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical HS, and Tuesday February 18th at Quincy HS vs Quincy HS or Plymouth South time 5pm or 630pm.  Leading scorer for Milton Boys is Anthony Smith with 11.0 pts a game and Myles McDermott with 10.5 pts per game.
Wrestling 12-8
Jonathan Carrera 33-2, Keith Martin 31-4, Zack Mazzarella 21-8, Mark Chandler 20-8, Kevin Sampson 18-10…We had a great match against Braintree on 2/4, the crowd was loud and there was lots of energy in the Field House unfortunately we came  on the losing end 42-39.  On Saturday we were invited to the D2 Team State Tournament in North Andover.  We lost to Arlington 54-20 but then came back strong and beat Beverly 42-24.  I was a good experience for the kids just to be there. This week is a big week for the wrestling team, since we are hosting the D2 Metro Sectional Tournament on Saturday.  The team, coaches and parents are all very excited to be hosting this all day tournament.  If a wrestler finishes in the top 4 of their respected weight class they move on to the D2 State Tournament on 2/21 in North Andover.
Girls Indoor Track
Team Record 2-4
At the BSC Championships we had a number of stellar performances. Andriana Higgins was first in the 55m Hurdles and 3rd in the 55m dash. The 4x400m relay team came in 2nd place Colette O’Leary, Sophie Cousineau, Andrea Juzyca and Zion Theodoros were on the relay team. Sophie Cousineau was 3rd in 1000m. Colette O’Leary finished 4th in the 1mile and Mairead Dambruch finished 4th in the 2 mile. Up next is the Div IV state Chamionships! Not sure how well we will do but we expect at least a top 10 finish as a team.
Boys Indoor Track
The boys indoor track team finished with a 2 – 2- 1 record in the Herget Division of the BSL. Seven boys have qualified for the state division meet and two relays as well. The meet will be held on Sunday the 16th.  The 7 MHS Boys Indoor Track runners are:  Chavinskee Milcent, Mariano Davis, Edwin Dely, Mandel Guerin Robinson, Jonathon Korfin, Phillip Janvier and Larry Janvier.
MHS Cheer
Cheerleaders Tia Marathas and Madelyn Driscoll represented the Milton HS Cheerleaders at the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii. They performed at the televised half time show. The Varsity cheerleading team competed at the Bay State Competition at Framingham High School on February 12th at 6:30pm.
MHS Swim Club
The swimmers competed against Randolph High School Swim Team on Wednesday, Feb 12th.  Our girls won 91-35 and boys lost 92-33. Thanks to Coach Megan Adley and parent organizer Eileen Heller for all their hard work this season. Here are the results from the most recent meet:
Individual Girls: 50 yard free: 1st place Della Jrolf. 100 yard Free: 1st place Emma Heller. 100 Yard Medley: 1st place Maia Adley, 2nd place Leah Corcoran. 100 yard Butterfly: 1st place Jacqueline Sullivan. 100 yard Breaststroke: 1st place Emma Heller, 2nd place Della Jrolf. 50 yard Backstroke: 1st place Maia Adley. 100 yard Backstroke:2nd place Leah Corcoran.  The relay team of Leah Corcoran, Maia Adley, Della Jrolf and Emma Heller took first place in 200 Yard Free Style and 200 Yard Medley Relays.
Individual Boys: 100 yard butterfly: 1st place Brendan McManus. 200 yard Freestyle: Brendan McManus. 50 yard Backstroke: 1st place Nolan Carvalho. The relay team of Brendan Mc Manus, Matt O’ Sullivan, Adam Potter, and Nolan Carvalho took 2nd place in the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Medley Relays.
Pierce Basketball:  The boys and girls teams played a very difficult schedule this year. Both teams currently have two wins. The boys swept Pembroke and the girls have victories against Newton and Gate of Heaven. Thank you to coaches John O’Leary and Chris Maine, and Nelson Taylor, who has been helping out with the boys team. Today is the last game of the season, vs. Easton.
