Courtyard Garden Harvest

The following post is from Foods teacher, Ms. Lovett:

The MHS courtyard garden harvest has begun.  Seed potatoes, carrot seeds and container corn seeds were planted in June by students in the Foods classes. Over the summer, Milton High students and Foods teacher, Elaine Lovett, continued to water and care for the plants.

This past week, students in Mrs. Jackson's class were able to harvest Yukon Gold, Cranberry Red and Blue Aztec potatoes, and carrots which were then washed well, baked and enjoyed.

Foods III students will complete the harvesting this week and prepare a variety of fresh potato and carrot dishes. Although the container corn seeds did not grow as well as expected, it was still interesting to see the results, no matter how small.

This year's garden was sponsored by the Milton Garden Club who supplied the funding for seeds, soil, and containers.  Their help was greatly appreciated since it made the farm to table experience possible at Milton High.

Open House Rescheduled for Monday, September 23

Please note the Open House scheduled for Milton High School on Thursday, September 12th has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts and rescheduled for Monday, September 23rd. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this change may cause and thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

The Open House is a great opportunity to get an overview of the high school, receive information from various organizations, familiarize yourself withyour child’s schedule, and meet teachers and administrators.  The Open House will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.

6:00 - 6:25 p.m. - Parents/guardians are invited to the Charles C. Winchester Auditorium for an introduction and brief discussion of high school expectations. Outside of the auditorium, the following organizations will have representatives on hand that will speak briefly about their efforts to support the high school: The Milton Foundation for Education, the Boosters, Diversity Committee, Friends and Advocates of Music Education (F.A.M.E) and Friends and Advocates of Visual Arts (F.A.V.A.). Please stop by their tables to learn more about each of these fabulous groups/organizations.

6:30 - 8:00 p.m. - Parents/Guardians will follow the student’s schedule for the periods 1 (A) through 7 (J). Each class presentation will last approximately eight (8) minutes. We will announce a change in periods over the PA system. Below, please find the schedule:

Period  Time
A            6:30 - 6:38
B            6:43 - 6:51
C            6:56 - 7:04
D            7:09 - 7:17
EF/FG    7:22 - 7:30
GH/HI     7:35 - 7:43
J             7:48 - 7:56

As you go from class to class each teacher will give you a synopsis of the class for the year. This is a great opportunity for you to get acquainted with the content, instruction and expectations of each class in your son/daughter’s schedule. Please remember, Open House is not the forum to speak to teachers about individual students.

Administrators and guidance counselors will be available throughout the evening and volunteers from the MHS Student Leaders will serve as guides as well. Since the parking lot at the high school will be full, parents/guardians are encouraged to carpool to Open House if possible.

We will send via email your son's/daughter's schedule one week prior to the Open House.

We look forward to seeing you at this important event.
