MHS Student Wins Classical Association of New England Writing Contest

Mirabile Dictu.  Congratulations to our MHS Senior Ellen Chow. She has been selected as the winner of the 2012-2013 Classical Association of New England Writing Contest (CANE) for her “engaging and insightful” entry on the Oresteia titled “Kings and Tyrants, Senators and Citizens: Political Power in Myth and History”. This contest is open to all Greek and Latin students from the six New England states.

“This is the highest achievement on a regional level for a Latin or Greek student at the middle and high school level,” says her Latin teacher Mary Lou Markarian. The project must be an original work and no assistance can be given by others involved.  Milton High regularly wins this contest at the state level (Classical Association of Massachusetts), but has not won regionally since 2004.  Ellen has been asked to speak at the annual banquet in March at the University of Connecticut where she will also receive her prestigious award.

Congratulations, Ellen!
